United States signed a natural gas contract with Iraq

Recently, foreign media reported that Beckhughes and General Electric Company of the United States signed a contract with Iraq to produce natural gas in Nassiriya and AlGharraf oilfields in southern Iraq by extracting crude oil. This is the second gas processing contract between Iraq and the United States Energy Corporation.

The plan, first announced by General Electric in July 2017, is part of Iraq's efforts to end the use of oil-gas blends by 2021. At present, Iraq is still using such a mixture of oil and gas, mainly because of the lack of equipment to convert it into natural gas.

Iraq plans to increase its crude oil production from about 5 million barrels a day to 6.5 million barrels in 2022. With the increase of oil production, the related natural gas production will also increase.
