How does automated fuel dispenser work?

The key components and the basic working principle of an automated fuel dispenser are as follows:

User Interface:

AFDs are equipped with a user interface that typically includes a display, keypad, and sometimes a card reader for payment transactions.

Users can select the type and amount of fuel they want, and in some cases, they can initiate the fueling process directly from their vehicle using a remote or mobile app.

Fuel Dispensing Nozzle:

The fuel dispensing nozzle is the part of the AFD that connects to the vehicle's fuel tank.

It may be a manual or automatic nozzle, depending on the design of the dispenser.

Fuel Pump:

A fuel pump is responsible for pumping the fuel from the storage tank to the dispensing nozzle.

The pump is activated when a user initiates a fueling transaction.

Flow Meter:

A flow meter measures the amount of fuel being dispensed accurately. This information is crucial for calculating the total cost of the fuel.

Control System:

A control system manages the overall operation of the AFD.

Payment System:

AFDs often have built-in payment systems that allow users to pay for fuel using credit cards, debit cards, mobile payment apps, or other electronic payment methods.

The payment system ensures secure and convenient transactions.

Safety Features:

AFDs include safety features such as automatic shut-off mechanisms in the nozzles to prevent overfilling and spills.

Emergency shut-off buttons or switches may be present for users or station attendants to stop fuel dispensing in case of an emergency.

Communication System:

A communication system may be present to connect the AFD to a central server or network for real-time monitoring, reporting, and processing of transactions.

The basic sequence of operations for an automated fuel dispenser is as follows:

The user selects the fuel type and amount on the interface.

The user initiates the fueling process, either by lifting the nozzle or using a remote device.

The fuel pump is activated, and fuel starts flowing through the nozzle.

The flow meter measures the amount of fuel dispensed.

The control system calculates the total cost based on the fuel quantity and price per unit.

If the nozzle is automatic, the fueling process stops automatically when the tank is full.

The user completes the transaction by making a payment through the integrated payment system.
